The Legion of Mary, a worldwide apostolate was founded in Dublin in 1921.The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary and the Church’s work.
In our Parish Legion of Mary was started by Rev Fr Abbot Rocky D’Souza on Sunday 14th July 2013. Our Praesidium of the OLVC holds weekly meetings every Monday at 7:30 PM in English and 5:00 PM on Saturday in Tamil. Due to Pandemic restriction, we conducted our meeting on line without fail. The Legion of Mary consists of two kinds of memberships: Active and Auxiliary. Both are essential to the Legion:
Legionary not only enkindles the spirit of apostolic zeal in its members, but directs it to most effective service. While insisting on the spirit of humility and obedience in all its members, it encourages the initiative of the individual in its system of reports and discussion. Through the control exercised over the activities of all its members by the weekly Presidium meeting and the supervision of individual Praesidia by the higher councils, it gives every opportunity for a campaign of planned action. It ensures unity, to preserve the original ideals of the Legion of Mary, to guard the integrity of the Legion spirit and its rules and practices, as set down in the Handbook of the Legion.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, I implore through your powerful intercession, the conversion of the hearts of mankind, complete victory over sin, and the return of the peace which you have promised. Amen.
